Site NewsPosted on January 30th, 2005 @ 11:28 am
I’ve removed the blogroll because I don’t think it is actually working since I’ve stopped receiving updates on blogs. Since Opera allows me to subscribe to newsfeeds - I’ve decided to go with that option instead.
Other site news - I upgraded my account with Netrillium last week and bought a domain name for my new fansite. I was working on it all day yesterday and it is coming together nicely. I have loads of screen caps to do though before the big launch on 7 February. Just to prove I’m mad - I set myself with the challenge of opening the site on the actor’s birthday which more or less left me with two weekends!! It’s not as crazy as it sounds though because I’m using the same template as MCO with a slight change in colour.
Oh, and you may have noticed (or not) that I’ve gone undercover and am back using my netname Caledonia. There is no real reason for it - just got bored using my real name all over the place. LOL!

New FansitePosted on January 22nd, 2005 @ 7:44 pm
I must be nuts because I’m thinking about buying a new domain name and starting a new fansite for an actor. (There’s a big clue in the previous entry as to which actor.) I don’t know whether this is just a flash in the pan or a serious thought yet and I’m currently fighting temptation. *sigh*
I’ve looked at a couple of different hosting plans because I can’t decide whether just to upgrade my Netrillium account and add another domain or go for somewhere totally different? I mean I’ve been with Netrillium for over two years and am perfectly happy with them, so should I stick to who I know or test the waters? Am I better buying my own domain like I always do or should I take up one of those offers of a free domain if I pay for a year?
Decisions… Decisions… Like I really have time to increase my web projects… but the thought of a shiny, new website to play with???

Murder OnePosted on January 22nd, 2005 @ 6:55 pm
I finally got round to buying the first season of Murder One which aired in the UK around 1996. It was created by Stephen Bochco, the guru behing the classic Hill Street Blues and stood out from the other American law dramas because it followed one case throughout an entire season.
Now, this new kind of story arc did not go down well with American viewers of the time because they were more used to the one-story-one-episode format where everything was tied up in a neat little bow at the end. As a result, the show didn’t get the credit it deserved in its homeland but it was a big hit with viewers in the UK and was one of those genuine “miss at your peril” TV events of the year. It also won great critical acclaim and a well deserved BAFTA award which really pleased Bochco who was disappointed by the lukewarm response from American audiences.
For some unknown reason, the series was never repeated so I was ecstatic to find it was out on DVD. So I’m having a bit of a Murder One marathon this weekend and discovering my love for Jason Gedrick all over again. This guy is just so damn sexy and downright luscious! Why isn’t he a major star??? I can’t even find a website for him which I may have to rectify at a future date.
The series was given a second season but it changed to incorporate the one-story-one-episode format and lost some of its uniqueness. Many of the major actors had also left the series and while the storylines remained just as gripping, it had lost some of its appeal. I have to admit that I gave up watching within a few episodes because it just wasn’t the same.
It also begs the question as to which idiot is in charge of scheduling at ABC as this series was constantly pitted against the mighty ER which was a lot more popular back than and the series suffered gravely in the ratings. Why do TV execs do stupid things like this and kill a show?
While we’re on the subject of killing a show, the nitwits at ABC also managed to kill Miracles long before its time with poor scheduling. Another show I’m totally in love with and will be purchasing on DVD sometime this year.

First 2005 PostPosted on January 9th, 2005 @ 2:21 pm
I don’t actually have that much to say in my first post for 2005. I’m still working and still asking myself why I’m really there because I still have nothing to do - hampered by the fact that I still don’t have computer access. I’ve got an application form to fill in for a permanent job somewhere else, so fingers crossed! I really can’t be doing with this sitting around watching other ppl work - it’s driving me up the wall! I need to do something! Needless to say, each day feels like a week!
I’ve been tinkering around with a few of my fanlistings - nothing major - just making them XHTML compliant and changing the layout around a bit. It still strikes me how STUPID ppl are when they join fanlistings - I mean, don’t they take the time to read anything on the pages? Why join something if you don’t really understand what you are joining? I’m removing all the rules sections from my FLs because it is obvious ppl can’t be bothered reading them. Why else would I still be getting emails from ppl who “can’t log in”?
There is nothing to log into and there are no secret member areas requiring a log-in!
Are ppl really that stupid or do they just think they are being clever? Come on, the Fanlistings Network has been around long enough for most ppl to know what they are by now. Okay, maybe that is a bit harsh but there are more important things going on in the world and some ppl need to get a life.
