Cameras & Reviews
Posted on August 30th, 2005 @ 9:08 pm

I ordered the camera I mentioned in my previous post so now I’m just waiting on delivery - I can’t wait to try it out and suspect I’ll be taking pics of many useless things over the next few days until I get used to it. I got so fed up looking at reviews and finally decided just to go order one and try it out! I guess it all comes down to personal choice in the end and it’s not like I’m a real expert.

I had a chat with my line manager today and she’s very pleased with how I’m fitting in and my quality of work. I’m still on probation until December but after that I get a whopping pay rise and she sees no reason why I won’t pass. She also admitted to me that I am way overqualified for what I’m doing and the place can’t offer me much in return but since my workplace is only one dept in a much bigger organisation - there’s plenty of scope for me to move on elsewhere. It was very nice to hear her say things like that but I’m just happy to have a job at the moment.

The truth is graduates aren’t really appreciated in the UK job market and I’m not all sure I really want a graduate position anyway. As far as I’m concerned, I work to earn money so I can live and do the things I love to do. As long as I don’t particularly hate my job and get on with my co-workers, I couldn’t care less what grade or title I have. I don’t want to live for work, I want to work to live if that makes any sense at all.

I have so many interests outside of work that mean a whole lot more to me than any 9 to 5 ever will. My job is not the main focus of my life and it never will be. I’m not saying that I have no ambition at all and when the time is right to go for promotion I probably will go for it. I guess I’m just not in a hurry to get there.

new domain
Posted on August 23rd, 2005 @ 8:40 pm

Oops! I just bought another domain and that brings my current total up to seven. I have so much space on my reseller since it got doubled by the wonderful Mia and my hostees aren’t even making a dent in it so I figured it was time for a new project.

It’s another fansite but for a TV show this time rather than an actor. I’m not going to reveal what it is yet because you probably don’t know it anyway. It was a scifi type show, starring an actor with whom I am completely in love. I just think he is absolutely beautiful and why he isn’t a major star is beyond me, although I kinda like the fact that you don’t come across many ppl who know him on the net. He’s my soul twin because his birthday is the day before mine. :)

Since the show has been over for a couple of years now, it’s not like it’s going to be high maintenance or anything but it will take quite a bit of work to get all the info on it. Most of the fansites that were built during the show’s time have all gone or are on free hosts with loads of crap adverts, so I think it deserves something more special. I just wish they’d release DVDs….

In other news, I’m in the process of hunting for a decent digital camera and it is really giving me a headache. I just don’t know what to buy. I saw one on QVCUK at the weekend that was about the size of a credit card and it looked so sweet I was sorely tempted. It’s just under £300 but you are getting a charger, a 256MB card as well as the card that is usually sold with it, a case, CD Rom software, world adapter and something else that completely escapes me at the moment. It just takes me ages to make decisions about stuff like this. I mean, do I really need a £300 camera?

It’s been a wet and miserable day today which probably accounts for the fact that it’s getting dark already. Even on the sunnier days, you can tell that winter is approaching because the nights are definitely drawing in. I don’t mind really, I love it when the house is all locked up, curtains shut, candles lit. Snug as a bug in a rug as the saying goes.

And, God, how peaceful is it now that the kiddywinks are back at school and not outside bouncing on trampolines in every back garden around me? What is it with this trampoline obsession just now?

Renovations
Posted on August 20th, 2005 @ 7:32 pm

The website renovations continue with a total revamp of jason-gedrick.net because I totally hated the last layout I made. After I uploaded it, I made the mistake of trying to XHTML validate it which totally messed up everything no matter how hard I tried to fix it all. It kept telling me I hadn’t ended all my divs correctly so I hunted down every single one and ended up with a screwed layout. After persevering for a couple of hours, I decided to stuff the validation and go back to the original layout. At least it looks okay in IE, Opera and Firefox and that’s the main thing.

I wish annoying ppl were so easy to eradicate…. Time to go hide offline methinks….:stress:

wow!

I’m stunned speechless because the lovely Ramon (one of my hostees) has made a fanlisting for me. I’m very honoured and a wee bit embarrassed but it is a lovely gesture, even if you won’t get many members. I keep a low profile! ;) [Visit CaledoniaFan]

Upgrades & Hosting
Posted on August 16th, 2005 @ 8:33 pm

I’ve just upgraded to the new version of WP and thought I’d test it out! I missed a couple of their previous updates so thought I’d better get my finger out and upgrade before something nasty happens. It’s so much easier to upgrade now that they use the templates system - I just have to remember not to overwrite the content and image folders. I did that by mistake the first time and regretted it! So, only three more sites to upgrade and I’m done until the next round!

Aw, one of my little chicks has flown the nest already and I think there is another about to leave rainy-daze.net if I’m not mistaken. It’s actually really wierd but there doesn’t seem to be as many people out there looking for free hosting these days. I guess it is because domains and hosting are so cheap now.

Anyway, the rest of the upgrades can wait until the weekend because I’m off to have a shower and catch an early night. I’ve been feeling really tired the past few ideas and had a few dizzy spells which is not good but at least I know they are labs related and not something else. I actually felt a bit sick over the weekend but it seems to have gone so I’m not sure if it labs related or maybe just a bug. I’ve been really headachy though because of the weather - it just really sucks being so sensitive to overcast days.

One of these days I will feel 100% healthy again but at the moment I seem to be hovering around the 95% mark and not moving. At least I’m not getting any worse.

Okay, so I’m off for that early night I promised myself…

Return To Innocence
Posted on August 12th, 2005 @ 6:47 pm

I have a new addiction - Innocent smoothies. I swear I’m like an addict when I come home from work and head straight to the fridge for my next fix. I’m slurping a pineapple, banana and coconut one right now. De-licious! Tescos are so boring though since they only have two flavours in right now and none of the little kiddie cartons at all. That’s just typical though - for once you have this drink that is 100% healthy for you and fun into the bargain but supermarkets don’t seem to care. They should be encouraging kids (and big kids) to drink more of this stuff. I’m going to have to find a supplier….

It was a really long week at work and I thought it was never going to end. I’m so pissed off with this one girl who is the laziest moo on the planet and all I want to do is slap some sense into her. FCOL, she is 22 and acts like she is 14 going on 8. She’s never happy unless she is the centre of attention and if I’m talking to someone else, she butts in and redirects the conversation back to herself. How pitiful is that? She’s also constantly on the phone to her bf who is 6 years younger than her. (Yes, that would make him 16.) I can’t wait until she moves to another dept!

What else have I been doing? Not a lot really. I finished Chapter 5 of my story and it seems to be shaping up okay. I’m not sure if I can get it finished by the end of the month, we’ll see.

I’ve also spent most of the week re-watching episodes of Odyssey 5 which I thought was far too good to be cancelled after just one season. I love Chris Gorham - he has such a great smile. Shame all his series get cancelled though, I mean he’s on a roll here: Odyssey 5, Jake 2.0 and Medical Investigation have all bit the dust.

Come on, TV execs, give him a decent show!!
