Visiting the Capital

I was in Edinburgh yesterday on some work related issues which I’ll talk about more in my LJ for privacy’s sake. Afterwards, I went on a shopping spree and finally tracked down the Angel perfume gift set that I wanted to get for my mum. I got the last one in the shop so it was obviously meant to be! Boots were selling it for nearly £15 cheaper than everywhere else so I was determined to get it there. It’s such a great price everyone wants it! God, some ppl love posh shops like Harvey Nicks or whatever but I absolutely adore Boots. They have fantastic bargains! They gave me a whole load of free perfume samples as well and I really love the Givenchy Very Irresistable one.

I also went into the Disney store and bought a few items for Christmas presents and a cute Tinkerbell phone dangly thing - something that seems to be really in at the moment. I’m not a huge Tinkerbell fan but they didn’t have a great range and I wanted a change from Winnie The Pooh.

Speaking of Tinkerbell, I found a fabulous site that does official Nokia phone fascias and I really want the Tink one I saw but the site only does wholesale. I searched high and low around the net last night trying to find a stockist but came up empty. I’m really pissed because I want a new fascia and this one would be perfect. I think I may send them an e-mail and ask if they can point me in the direction of a supplier.

On a side note, I closed down applications for rainy-daze.net a couple of weeks ago, not because I don’t have space anymore but because I got so sick and tired of ppl not reading the rules. I have a hidden phrase there that must be entered in the comments box and it was being ignored. I don’t like doing that sort of thing because it tends to irritate me when I visit a site but I had no choice and it was obvious ppl were lying about stuff. I don’t have a whole lot of requirements but my hostees absolutely must know how to use FTP and know how to upload their files. While I’m more than happy to install a PHP script or whatever, I really do not have the time to hold their hands while they learn the basics of HTML or FTP. Sometimes I think free sites and WYSIWYG software are a curse because a lot of ppl don’t take the time to learn how to code properly by hand and want everything done for them.

I think my hosting site will be invitation only from now on or I may just leave it closed for now.

Stupid Bosses

My line manager is driving me nuts and almost had me in tears of frustration today for no good reason. The woman is majorly anal retentive and I’m thinking about starting a collection around the office to get her a few hours of therapy. When I send out info to customers they all get the same letter, only the name and address changes, so what is the point of saving ever damn letter into a folder on the computer so she can check each one? Is she afraid I’m going to get the address wrong? Maybe screw the spelling up somewhere? As it is, the addresses and info get logged in a spreadsheet, so why create more unnecessary work?

I’m also sick and tired of taking over jobs that are supposed to be done by ppl getting more money than me. It’s all very well stepping in when someone is ill and there is a staffing crisis, but when there are higher paid staff members sitting on their asses doing nothing, it kinda gets to you after a while. The woman just does not seem to grasp the concept that it is not fair to expect us to do these jobs for nothing extra. It isn’t about the money at all - but the principle behind it. She wants us to be able to do each other’s job which would be fine if we were all the same grade and treated with the same respect.
