Opera 9 + WidgetsPosted on June 28th, 2006 @ 11:03 am
It’s no secret that I love Opera and just when you think it can’t get any better, they release version 9 and you get to explore the world of widgets. Gadgets for your desktop! I love Opera so much and wouldn’t change it for anything. I installed the following widgets: Touch the Sky (weather), Currency Converter, Touch the Screen (TV Listings) and Mass Validator that connects to the WC3 site to make sure my sites are XHTML compliant.
I started the week off with another migraine from hell and I’m pretty sure it is down to stress. So, since I was in zombieland, I stayed home on Tuesday and slept the morning away. In the afternoon, I was still pretty queasy but getting bored so I watched a few CSI eps.

Role ReversalPosted on June 20th, 2006 @ 11:03 am
My grandma is sick again - same infection as before so Mum is staying at her house with her. Apparently she knew she was coming down with it last week and ignored it as usual so she knows she’s in for a lecture. You gotta laugh though. When I called Mum from work this morning, she said my Aunt had gone into the bedroom to see Grandma and Grandma had simply looked at her and said, “I’m in trouble, aren’t I?” My aunt laughed and told her she’d get a lecture when she was feeling better. I just got this vision of Grandma peeking over the top of the covers with puppy dog eyes…
It’s so funny watching Mum and Grandma together these days because it’s like they have reversed roles with Mum as the parent and Grandma as the naughty child. I wonder if Mum and I will be the same! I’m quite looking forward to bossing her around for a change.
The Karin Slaughter book-fest is over, mainly because I’ve run out of books. There’s a new one out in August of this year but it is a stand-alone and I have to wait until 2007 for a new Grant County one. *le sigh*
So, since I’m still in the violent crime mood - I picked up a cheap Ann Rule book this afternoon. It’s an anthology of about six stories (which I didn’t notice until later) so I’m not sure if I will like it. I’m not a big short story fan but I guess it will introduce me to the Queen of Crime. She’s the one who knew Ted Bundy apparently…..
I’m having a real reading frenzy just now and for the life of me I can’t figure out why I never read crime stories before because I love this genre on TV.

Summer SunshinePosted on June 10th, 2006 @ 11:02 am
Yay! We are having beautiful weather but the biggest drawback is everyone is out mowing their lawns and that means more grass pollen for me to endure! *sniffs* Hay fever is the pits and freshly cut grass makes me feel worse.
The World Cup started yesterday. *yawns* I swear to God if I hear one more shitty comment from English broadcasters about how Scotland should support England - I will f**king scream! Get the picture, man! We don’t give a damn, the harder you push - the further we retreat! Take your double standards and shove them where the sun don’t shine! So, this is one girl who will be avoiding EVERY football match for the next 6 weeks. Thank God for DVDs and cable!
I’ve actually been reading a lot lately. I got hooked on a new author by the name of Karin Slaughter who writes crime novels and boy does she know how to tap into your deepest psychological fears. The second novel Kisscut was a really disturbing case that eventually led to revelations about child abuse and pornography. It was heartbreaking. I started her third book last night and am waiting for her fourth to arrive from Amazon. I haven’t gotten this obsessed about an author since I discovered Anne Rice.

Bon jovi @ HampdenPosted on June 6th, 2006 @ 10:58 am
OMG, the concert was fantastic! I’m still on a high and even the 2 mile walk back into the city didn’t dampen my spirits. Jon Bon Jovi is such a SUPERSTAR and he literally had us eating out of his hand the whole time. The word “star” is bandied about far too easily these days and so many people do not deserve that title but watching Jon on stage made me realise the true definition of the word - he is just so entertaining and such a professional.

New HostPosted on June 1st, 2006 @ 10:58 am
After suffering frequent downtime and a lack of real customer support at Toasty Host, I decided enough was enough and moved my sites to Devoted Host last weekend. I must stress that in no way am I saying Toasty Host is a bad hosting company because I was there for just over a year and had very few problems - in fact my webspace was doubled free of charge at one point as compensation for some downtime which was fabulous. I just feel customer support could be a lot better and don’t feel like waiting days for an answer. I also needed to look at some longterm issues space wise. Both my fansites, MCO and JGN, have huge galleries (they took hours to move, btw!) which are by far the largest part of each site and always going to need more space than anything else, so it made sense to pay the same amount of money for 15GB as 2GB.
I had no idea what a nightmare it was to move though. Since yours-truly.net was the premiere site at Toasty, I opted to make rainy-daze.net the premiere account at DH - that way I’d be able to move my sites one at a time without too much disruption. I started at 8:30 on Sunday morning and was still working on it at 21:00 that night when I stopped to watch Supernatural. By that time, I still had three sites to move and a few of my hostee accounts to move as well.
When I got home from work on Monday, I transferred MCO, my biggest site, and the galleries were a total nightmare to move and took hours as previously stated. I also had to update to the latest version of EE which now includes a free wiki module - I’ve no idea what I’m going to use that for though. Tuesday night, I got fed up with the lack of response from certain hostees and went ahead and reset their passwords so I could get access to their folders. I posted a message on my blog that I wasn’t going to reinstate accounts until they had gotten in touch with me but since some were fanlistings, I uploaded them anyway because I didn’t want to be the cause of them losing their TFN approved status. To be honest, I’m really annoyed and feel like just deleting the accounts anyway. I mean how long am I supposed to wait?
