Minor (and major) Irritations
April 4th, 2007 @ 7:42 pm

I started back into my old department on Monday and it’s plain to see things haven’t changed. I’ve decided to just get on with my own work and ignore what other people are (or aren’t doing) but it is so damn hard. S did nothing this afternoon while I worked my ass off and I’m beginning to think an ultimatum is needed so my boss actually does something about it instead of just agreeing there is a problem. The trouble is my line manager is young and she wants to be everyone’s friend but there are certain situations where you just have to put your foot down or be taken for a mug. I guess the good thing about the whole situation is it showing me that I’m making the right decision to move up a grade once I get the chance.

On a brighter note, I’ve started buying a few bits and pieces for my trip to Florida! I’m so looking forward to it but part of me still can’t believe that I’m going to the US! I have to keep pinching myself. Florida and Disney were just places I dreamed of visiting when I was a kid, knowing that my parents could never afford it and I just never thought I’d actually be going one day! It’s the only thing that is keeping me motivated at the moment.

The reason why I’m not blogging so often is I’m majorly obsessing with my family tree site these days. I managed to get back to the mid-1700s with one line and I was ecstatic since that’s further back than any other line so far. I’m loving this so much and part of me wishes I’d grown up to become a genealogist. Why do schools only teach the boring stuff?

We do share some things. One my father was born in Scotland and two, I’m mad for genealogy. Drop by my blog and let me know which lines you are researching. Perhaps we can give each other a hand.

Sorry to hear about your struggles at work and you are so right: A boss who tries to be every once ‘friend’ is misleading.

How exciting to go to Florida. I’ve only been up north in NY as my wife is from Saratoga. Going for a trip like that, I think the planning and the anticipation is half of the fun:-)

Working with the family tree sounds exciting too. I know mine back from the 1500s, but then again it might be a bit easer for a Viking LoL. Tell me if you hit a branch from Norway!

Wishing you a Happy Easter Holiday too:-)

Caledonia: I think I’m too far South for the Viking blood but you never know!

Wow, that’s awesome about how far you were able to get in your family tree. My dad was very into that for a while and managed to get quite far on one line. I’m fascinated by it too and think it’s a wonderful thing to keep that sense of your own personal history alive.

Cool about FL and Disney World. Are you going to Epcot and Universal Studios and Seaworld also?

Caledonia: Oh, I’m definitely going to Seaworld to feed a dolphin. I’m looking forward to the Space Centre too!
