Joke #1
An Englishman and a Scotsman are driving head on, at night, on a twisty, dark road. Both are driving too fast for the conditions and collide on a sharp bend in the road. To the amazement of both, they are unscathed, though their cars are both destroyed. In celebration of their luck, both agree to put aside their dislike for the other from that moment on.
At this point, the Scotsman goes to the boot and fetches a 12 year old bottle of sherry. He hands the bottle to the Englishman, who exclaims “May the Scots and the English live together forever, in peace, and harmony”.
The Englishman then tips the bottle and gulps half of the bottle down. Still flabbergasted over the whole thing, he goes to hand the bottle to the Scotsman, who replies: “No, thanks, I’ll just wait till the Police get here”.
Joke #2
A Scotsman walked into a supermarket with his zipper down. A lady cashier walked up to him and said, “Your barracks door is open.”
This is not a phrase Scotsmen normally use so he went on his way looking a bit puzzled. When he was about done shopping, a man came up and said, “Your fly is open.”
He zipped up and finished his shopping. He then went up to the lady who told him about his “barracks door.” He was planning to have a little fun with her. When he reached her counter he said, “When you saw my barracks door was open did you see a Scottish soldier standing in there at attention?”
The lady thought for a moment and said, “No, no. I didn’t. All I saw was a disabled veteran sitting on two duffle bags!!!
I guess it is that time of year again - the big review of the year!
Work: Work was sweet this year, in so far as I got my big promotion and also got a BIG bonus that went straight into my Mac fund. A few people have come and gone, pretty much like last year, and the baby boom continues with no end in sight. Seriously, we have had over ten babies born in the past two years!
Family: I already had a draft of this post stored in my blog where I commented nothing much had happened during the year. Then, of course, my cousin died and a whole lot of ugliness has reared its head which underlines why we tend not to get involved with that side of the family. I was actually starting to feel quite proud of my surname whilst doing my genealogy project but now I feel I want to distance myself from it. My dad’s family come from a little village where everyone literally knows your name and I’m sure the scandal has spread like wildfire. Only the family members who have left the village have done anything with their lives and at least we can hold our heads up high while others continue to drag the family name through the mud.
Personal: The highlight of the year just has to be my trip to Florida. I had mixed emotions about it and found out I really, really hate plane travel. I think it is time someone invented a transporter device like they have on Star Trek! Florida was way hotter than it should’ve been and underlined how much of a winter baby I really am. It was also far too touristy for my tastes. And don’t Americans ever make things in their own country? Everything I picked up was made in China - even all the souvenirs at Mousedom! I don’t think I’ll go back because there are other places in the US I want to see so much more, like New York.
Internet: My host changed names but proved to be very helpful when I had a huge database problem with my family tree site which totally freaked me out - I had visions of starting from scratch. I also decided to stop hosting sites for people because I’ve discovered the more you give some people, the more they want. The whole thing turned out to be a huge PITA. Having said that, some of my old hostees are still hanging around and they are lovely.
Geekiness: The big purchase of the year was my MacBook Pro which I totally love. I’m still discovering new things and of course the learning curve continues. My happiness will be complete when I add Vista… maybe.
Fandoms: I’m still obsessed with Battlestar Galactica and Supernatural. I’m totally gutted The 4400 has been cancelled but I still have S4 to watch because of the whole VirginMedia/Sky One feud. I’m sad BSG is coming to an end but just hope the show is allowed to finish properly due to the writer’s strike. It looks like I’m losing most of my big shows next year.
2008: I really don’t have much planned for this year, other than my Bon Jovi concert and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I’m toying with the idea of moving into a new flat but it would have to be a rental because mortgages are way too high in my area, mainly because we are smack dab in the middle between Edinburgh and Glasgow. I get a huge wage rise in Sept 08 but even that won’t help me get a mortgage since I’m on my own. I’ve no desire to put myself into debt and don’t want to be in a position where I’m living from one wage to the next.
