Where am I?
Posted on February 27th, 2008 @ 9:36 pm

I really haven’t had time to blog over the past week or so and I love to say it was because I’ve been exceptionally busy but I think it’s down to sheer laziness more than anything else. I’ve been absolutely knackered after work and haven’t had that much to blog about. I had a couple of days off last week and wanted to use them to get caught up with some stuff but ended up doing naff all.

I’ve mostly been doing my impression of a couch potato and watching TV a lot. I’m totally obsessed with Prison Break and have been renting the eps from Blockbuster. Unfortunately, I’m caught up to the end of S2 and now have to wait for S3 to be released. On the plus side, I did manage to get S1 for half price! It was like it was just waiting for me to come buy it!

Now, I’m just counting down to my Easter break and getting ready for Mothers Day. I can’t believe they decided to have it at the beginning of March instead of the end! Who decides these things anyway? Easter is also really early this year and has totally thrown my calendar out of whack.

I shouldn’t have started thinking about Easter because now I want a Cadbury’s Creme Egg…

For all you ladies (and gents) who don’t know who the sexy Sawyer is - here ya go!

If you think I’ve got it bad with Sawyer, just wait until I get started on the absolutely brilliant Prison Break. I’m such a TV slut these days. *sigh*

Lost and Found
Posted on February 16th, 2008 @ 12:56 pm

I’ve been a bit neglectful of the internet this week because I started watching LOST again when I got bored last weekend. Just to explain, the first three seasons of LOST are available on TV on Demand on Virginmedia cable so I can pretty much watch the eps whenever I want.

I fell out of love with the series before the first season had ended because I hated the direction it seemed to be following. In the beginning, it intrigued me when it was just about the survivors of a plane crash, trying to make the most of a bad situation and planning on how to be rescued. I didn’t even mind the supernatural stuff that was sprinkled in to add a dash of danger but what I didn’t like was the fact they started falling over all these other people.

After coming to the end of S3, my opinion of the show hasn’t changed and I’m afraid it is way too repetitive for me. The flashbacks were an interesting gimmick in S1 but they irritate the hell out of me in future seasons. I also hate the whole Dharma Initiative thing and the introduction of Ben and the rest of them. Instead of intriguing me, most of the mystery elements irritate me.

So, why am I bothering to watch at all? Two words… Josh Holloway. Yes, the sexiness of Sawyer has finally hit me despite my best efforts. As soon as the Southern drawl starts, I melt into a puddle of goo. There is just something so compelling about a bad boy with a good heart.

In conclusion, I watch LOST for all the wrong reasons but who cares when Sawyer takes off his shirt and starts chopping firewood?

Labels Need To Go
Posted on February 7th, 2008 @ 8:40 pm

I was reading an newspaper article the other day about John Barrowman who plays Capt Jack Harkness in the BBC show Torchwood and once again I was struck by how the media seem to have this obsessive need to label people. You see, John is gay which in itself is not a problem but I do hate how he is constantly referred to in the papers as “the gay actor” or “the gay singer”. I mean why does the press need to keep underlining the fact that he is gay? Is that really relevant when discussing his career?

If you read a story on Brad Pitt, they don’t call him “the straight actor” or “the heterosexual actor” that would just be ridiculous. So, why can’t John just be “the actor” and “the singer”? It all seems really ridiculous when you consider how political correctness has reached levels of sheer stupidity in this country. Maybe the PC brigade should concentrate on dropping labels rather than worrying about whether the colour black causes offence.

Feeling Blue

Hi! My name is Caledonia and I’m addicted to painkillers. Yes, that’s gonna be me very soon if we don’t get a break from the goddamned weather anytime soon. Rain, I can cope with that. Gale force winds, I can even cope with that. Constant headaches caused by the weather, no, I’m sorry, everyone has their breaking point and I’m about to reach mine.

The sky is a lovely shade of dark gray and it is currently pressing down on my head. I feel like Atlas, the big dude who held the world on his shoulders. Where’s the snow we were promised? The lovely, white fluffy stuff that will soon be a vague childhood memory?

Cold and wet is my world…. I need a cuddle…

Saving Sundance and Rainbow
Posted on February 2nd, 2008 @ 12:12 pm

Just before Christmas, Mr Malcolm Wicks MP, Minister of State for Energy, announced exploration in the Moray Firth Conservation Area for gas and oil reserves was likely to go ahead despite European preservation laws. The Moray Firth is the only place in the North Sea to house a unique pod of bottlenose dolphins which attract visitors from all over the world. The govt must not be allowed to do this! The WDCS have started a campaign to prevent this from happening and they have a special e-card on their website which you can send to the govt. All you have to do is fill in your details in the right column and then press send. If exploration goes ahead, the dolphin pod could be forced out of the area and is likely to face extinction.

Dolphins aren’t the only marine life in danger and you can watch a heart wrenching report on how the Moray Firth team had to put a baby whale to sleep which had beached on the shore. The baby’s mother was nowhere to be found and if it had been released into the water, it would’ve starved to death as it was still reliant on its mother’s milk.

I’ve adopted two of these dolphins, Sundance and Rainbow, and receive regular reports on their progress. The WDCS observes these beautiful creatures from a distance and use donations to conserve their habitat. They also offer tours where you can observe the dolphins but never close enough to harm them.
